Basic Stamp I & II Programming Cables

 July 7, 1997
Cable Descriptions for BASIC Stamp I and II
Please note that these cable descriptions give details for making the
PC-to-module cables, not PC-to-carrier cables.  For instance, if you already
have a BS2-IC carrier board, then you will need a standard DB9-to-DB9 serial
cable (pin 2 to pin 2, pin 3 to pin 3, etc).  The following descriptions
assume that you are not using a carrier board with the BS1-IC or BS2-IC.

BASIC Stamp I (PC parallel port to Stamp D/Stamp I module):

PC DB25   Stamp D Pin     Name     BS1-IC Pin      Name        Notes
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
     25          1          GND           2          GND/Vss     <<< on Stamp
     11          2          BUSY          3          PCO
      2          3          DATA          4          PCI

BASIC Stamp II (PC serial port DB9 connector to Stamp II module):

PC DB9   Name   BS2-IC Pin   Name       Notes
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
2       RX       1         Sout       Serial out from Stamp II
3       TX       2         Sin        Serial in to Stamp II
4       DTR      3         ATN        Serial attention line
5       Gnd      4         GND        Serial ground

Stamp II note:  for the Stamp II software to find the Stamp II on any serial
port, you must connect DSR (DB9 pin 6) to RTS (DB9 pin 7) on your PC's serial
port.  Otherwise, the software will give a "Hardware not Found" error.  If this
is a problem, you can tell the software which serial port to use from the
DOS command-line, as follows:

 STAMP2 /x

Where "x" is the serial port number (1-3).

Please note that the Stamp II Carrier Board makes the DSR-to-RTS connection, so
this error should not occur if you're using the carrier board.
